Hello and welcome back to a new school year in Reception 2022/2023.
Staff for this year group are:
Teachers - Mr Chatterley and Mrs Dodd
Support staff - Miss Worthington, Mrs Halford and Miss Longmore-Thompson.
Welcome back to another exciting school year! All of the Reception children have settled into their new classes very well. The children have all made new friends and are excited to be at school full time. To begin this term Reception have been learning all about ‘ourselves’. We shared photos of our families and talked about what makes us unique.
Each day the children will been learning a new sound in phonics and will be engaging in lots of activities in order to be able to read, remember and write these sounds. At Kings Hill, we follow Power Maths, which is a Maths scheme that involves problem solving, thinking and discussing. This means that the concepts are broken down so that your child can master one idea without feeling over-whelmed. There are a range of fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions in each lesson that are designed to support the different needs and confidence levels within a class. In Reception this term, we will be focusing on numbers to five, ordering and comparing groups within 5.
This term Reception PE will be on Wednesday mornings. Please ensure that your child is wearing their PE kit on this day.
In addition, Homework and Reading is a very important part of Receptions children’s schoolwork. Could we please ask that you support us by ensuring that your child has completed their homework and returned it to school by the following Friday after receiving it, and that they are reading at home to an adult every day and that this is recorded into their reading diaries.
Dates will follow throughout the year. Our half-termly newsletter will provide you with updates on key dates for your diary and our topics for that half term.
