Hello and welcome back to a new school year in Reception 2021/2022.

Staff for this year group are:

Teachers

Miss Mistry and Mrs Rahman

Support staff

Mrs Khanum and Miss Worthington

Welcome back to another exciting school year! All of the Reception children have settled into their new classes very well. The children have all made new friends and are excited to be at school full time. To begin this term Reception have been learning all about ‘ourselves’. We shared photos of our families and talked about what makes us unique.

The children then found a dinosaur egg in our outdoor area! So for the last few weeks we have been learning all about dinosaurs! It has been an exciting journey and the children have really enjoyed this topic.

Each day the children have been learning a new sound in phonics. At kings Hill, we follow Power Maths, which is a Maths scheme that involves problem solving, thinking and discussing. This means that the concepts are broken down so that your child can master one idea without feeling over-whelmed. There are a range of fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions in each lesson that are designed to support the different needs and confidence levels within a class. In reception this term, we have been focusing on numbers to five, ordering and comparing groups within 5.

This term Reception PE will be on Wednesday mornings. Please ensure that your child is wearing their  PE kit on this day.

In addition, Homework and Reading is a very important part of Receptions children’s school work. Could we please ask that you support us by ensuring that your child has completed their homework and returned it to school by the following Friday after receiving it, and that they are reading at home to an adult every day and that this is recorded into their reading diaries.

Dates will follow throughout the year. Our termly newsletter will provide you with updates on key dates for your diary and our topics for that term.

We are more than happy to speak to you before or after school if you have any questions. We can also be contacted through the class dojo system.

Many thanks,

Reception team.

Reception children have settled in to their new classes really well and we have spent lots of time getting to know our new environment and each other.

To start the new school year off we did some team building activities, this included making towers with balloons and looking at different local football teams.  For our first topic, we explored dinosaurs.  We found an egg in the garden and then had a visit in the classroom from the dinosaur.  The children were very excited and it prompted lots of lovely discussions.  Following on from this, we enjoyed reading the story 'Funnybones' and this gave the opportunity to talk about our different body parts and bones.  For our final week, we have been looking for signs of Autumn and have been talking about the change in seasons.

Easter Bonnet workshop

On Thursday 29th March, Early Years Parents were invited to our Easter bonnet workshop. It was wonderful to have so many parents come into school to work with their children. After working with their children to create an Easter bonnet, each class had a parade around the garden to show their creations. The feedback we had from parents was very positive, saying they enjoyed the opportunity to work with their children. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend, it was wonderful to have so many parents come and join us.

Dippy the Clown

Early Years chick diary

In Early Years we have welcomed some baby chicks into our family, each day we will had new photos to let you know how we are getting on.

All children have been very excited and been discussing names for them.

Please ask your child when they come home what they did today and if they have a name for them, we will be naming the chicks once they're all hatched.
