Welcome to another exciting year in Nursery, and a big warm welcome and hello to all of our new children and families who joined us this September.  All of the Nursery children have settled into their new classes very well, making new friends and are transitioning well into the Nursery routine, along with getting to know their new teachers and support staff.

We are fortunate enough this year to have access to our school forest area which together, we are continuing to develop. The children will participate and be provided with lots of outdoor learning opportunities through daily continuous provision and free flow play and the introduction this year to ‘Welly Wednesday’s’. Each Wednesday children are exploring the school forest area and taking part in a variety of different outdoor learning experiences.

In the first few weeks of Nursery the children have engaged in a new routine, which includes dough disco, musical movement, write dance, Maths talk, small group and literacy. Our literacy focus’ has been Goat goes to Playgroup by Julia Donaldson. This story has supported us to reflect on our own first day at Nursery school and consider how the characters in the story might be feeling and how they can be supported to settle into Nursery successfully.

Also, Homework is given out each Friday in a provided homework bag, please ensure that homework is returned by the following Wednesday. The homework will be strongly linked to what we have been doing in class and is offered as a consolidation of our learning and topic.

Lastly, the Nursery teachers would like share a big well done to all of the children, they have settled in beautifully and got stuck in with our curriculum here in Nursery, let’s have a fantastic and fun year!

In Nursery we have been reading stories all about bears. The children have enjoyed having lots of Teddy bear picnics, making bear biscuits, building the bears a cave and going on a bear hunt! In our outdoor play we have been exploring and bringing to life the different obstacles that the children faced in the story Were Going on a Bear Hunt.

We have been retelling familiar stories about bears and looking at some non fiction information and texts.

We have also had the opportunity to have some growing eggs in Early Years and have observed the life cycle of baby chicks, the children enjoyed caring for and handling the baby chicks and observing how their eggs hatch.

We enjoyed an Easter bonnet making session - Thank you to all of the parents who sent in bonnets and decorations the children had a fabulous time and were very creative making their bonnets.
