Curriculum Statement of Intent

‘Working together to achieve excellence’.

To provide our children with an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that enables them to develop as independent, confident and successful learners. We want our children to be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of and a sense of pride in the local community so that children become positive and proactive members of their community.
  • Understand the world around them on a local, national and international level so that they gain a greater perception of the world and its complexities
  • Be open to new possibilities, develop high aspirational attitudes and understand how they can achieve their goals.

At King’s Hill Primary School our curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of reading, writing and mathematical skills, knowledge, concepts and values with a vision to prepare them for life beyond primary school. We constantly provide a broad range of enrichment opportunities to engage our children in their learning as much as possible.

Involvement in opportunities to participate in what happens in the local and wider community is an integral part of our curriculum. We invite families and visitors to facilitate learning new skills and sharing experiences such as assemblies, curriculum projects, show and tell sessions and workshops.

We believe our children leave King’s Hill with a sense of belonging to a close community where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
